WAPs initial failure a myth!

July 24th, 2009

The new and improved WAP 2.0 is the ultimate in mobile internet access available throughout the world. It has become so embedded in peoples daily lives that users have become dependant on it as a source of information and data, as well as a very high end booking office for many occasions (travel tickets, cinemas, concerts, etc). But is this what WAP was always meant to be? WAP was not always pish-posh and fancy like it is today. In fact, WAP 1.0, the earlier version of WAP 2.0, was a complete and utter failure even if it is not compared to its current version. WAP 1.0 had a bad user interface based only on text. There was minimal allowance for graphics and other coded objects. The only thing it could be used for effectively was to have an online dictionary handy for all those people that want to carry around a dictionary in their pockets. To be blunt, hardly anybody admired this new media of communication. Fortunately for WAP, its successor has more than compensated for the initial discrepancy.
